Jose Mourinho claims Henrikh Mkhitaryan did not start for Manchester United against Fenerbahce because he lacks match fitness.
Mkhitaryan returned to training three weeks ago from a thigh injury but was not included in the squad for Thursday night's Europa League tie against the Turkish side.
The 27-year-old has not played since the September 10 defeat to City and Mourinho explained why he did not restore Mkhitaryan to the team against Fenerbahce.
One thing is fit and not injured, another thing is match fitness, match intensity, and being ready to play this game. I play with Lingard and Martial and I have Rashford and Memphis on the bench, I cannot play with everyone at the same time. Mikhi has not played for a long time.
Mikhitaryan has made just one start and three substitute appearances for United since his £26.3million move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
